Death has a comma just as resurrection does. This was a coincidence in the piece, but when I thought about it more, I realized how true it was. I think we are often scared of the comma — the afterwards. The in-between. When we cannot grasp the ending. We want to be confident in our foundation, but a lot of times, we haven’t found one. Being aware of our lack and the emptiness of our dreams is frightening, but it can also open our hearts to a healthy grieving. The responsibility of love that goes beyond present happiness. Sacrificing our desires for another, letting go of pride. We crawl out of our man-made shells and stand out in the open, vulnerable, the warm sun still hanging in the sky. The enveloping water pure and cleansing. There is this shift in our spirit that knows we must change to grow, and it clings to the invitation of rebirth — awaking to God as he reintroduces us to reality. A new purpose found in each present moment when we cling to the rock that we’re built upon. When we hold our lives with an open hand yet grasp The Pearl tightly. We find a hope that goes beyond fear of death and sustains a resurrection.
